Edição de Autor is a Portuguese compilation series dedicated to showcasing self‑released music by national rock and metal artists. The concept originated with the final issue of Revista Lusitânia in 2022, which included a curated CD featuring tracks from independently released works by Portuguese bands. With the magazine’s closure, the project was continued by Ethereal Sound Works, who assumed responsibility for assembling, producing and releasing new volumes in the series.
Each edition brings together a selection of self-released songs from a wide range of Portuguese artists, highlighting the diversity of the country’s independent rock and metal scene. The compilations span numerous subgenres — from alternative and hard rock to extreme metal, atmospheric projects, progressive styles and more — functioning as an updated snapshot of the creativity emerging from outside the traditional label system.
By continuing the original idea launched by Revista Lusitânia, Ethereal Sound Works has helped turn Edição de Autor into a living archive of Portuguese independent music, giving visibility to new and established underground projects while preserving the DIY spirit that inspired the series.
